The dot SE country-specific top-level extension was established in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. Persons were permitted to reserve only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, commercial entities and organizations were able to acquire a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized notably and, as a result, the number of .SE domains has been increasing each year.
