Every registered domain name has no less than 2 Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain to the servers of a specific hosting provider. In this way, you have both your website and your emails managed by the very same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, for instance A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter indicates which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, when you type a domain in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be sent to the servers of another provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having separate records for the site and the e-mails means you could have your website and your e-mails with 2 different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting account through our company and you want to move either your site or your e-mails to an alternative provider, it will take you literally just 2 clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a given MX record is going to have. The propagation of each record that you change or create isn't going to take more than a few hours and if necessary, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will remain active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for any one of your domains or subdomains is really easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are maintained via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which features a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't encounter any troubles if you choose to direct your website or e-mails to another provider while keeping the second service with our company. If needed, you can also create additional MX records and set a specific priority depending on the instructions of the new provider.
